Alma Mater

 Alma Mater

A nurturing mother.

That’s what you were supposed to be.

You were nurturing.

Yes, I agree.

Gratitude for everything you gave me.

indebted for the ABCs. For the 123s.

I am so very grateful for all the hours, all the letters you gave me.

But where is the quality? Where is the meaning?

What are the words those letters make?

Oh, the idiosyncrasies you fed me!

So very sturdy

Your structure was.

Pillars of strength; you taught me.

What is it made of, what does it hold

"Searching is your duty," you told me.

In the arms of a nurturing mother

fostered and nursed.

Warmth is what I must feel.

Heart too cold, nerves too numb

What is it you make me feel?

Alma mater!

So prestigious. So glorious.

You brought nourishment;

Nourishment to the mind

Iron-willed I must be.

Searching, still searching

determined I must be.

Thirsty was I and this is what I find.

You kept on feeding me.
